The Kolhapur Forest Division works for the conservation of forests, wildlife, and biodiversity. We promote eco-tourism, support sustainable forest management, create livelihood opportunities for local communities, and encourage value-added forest products like bamboo. Through modern technology and e-governance, we ensure transparent and efficient public services while working towards increasing forest cover to 33%.
The protection and conservation of natural resources is no longer merely a national concern, but has long become an international priority. Forests are an inseparable part of natural wealth and hold exceptional importance. Due to the rapidly changing environmental conditions, forests play a vital role in modern solutions such as carbon sequestration.
To preserve the rich and diverse biodiversity of the state, the Forest Department is committed to implementing policy-based conservation strategies. Through nature tourism (eco-tourism), the sustainable management of wildlife is encouraged.
It is essential to scientifically manage the production and utilization of both timber and non-timber forest produce. Through Joint Forest Management, continuous efforts are aimed at improving the livelihood of communities dependent on natural resources and forests.
The department also aims to promote value-added products made from bamboo and other forest resources, thereby supporting local artisans and labourers and improving their standard of living. Furthermore, it is a government priority to increase forest cover to 33% of the geographical area.
